Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our gear, courses, and policies.
Does a knife come with a way to mount it?
Yes — all of our knives come with attachments for either your leg or your BCD.
Where should I mount it?
Where you can reach it with either hand while task-loaded. That is the part people get wrong — a knife strapped to your right calf is no use if your right arm is the one caught. Bring your rig in and we will show you where it should sit.
Knife, line cutter or shears?
Line cutters and shears work in thick gloves, which a folding knife often does not, and most of what you will actually cut in Sydney is monofilament rather than rope. There is a lot of lost fishing line on these sites — Gordons Bay, Clovelly, Bare Island — and every regular diver here has cut themselves or a buddy free of it at some point.
Titanium or steel?
Titanium does not rust, which matters for a tool that lives in salt water and gets used twice a year. Marine-grade steel holds an edge better but needs looking after.
