Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our gear, courses, and policies.

How do I attach a torch to my rig?

A bolt snap on a short length of rope is what we would recommend. It keeps the torch where you can reach it during the dive and lets you clip it off when you need both hands. Bring your rig in and we will attach it with you.

Do I need a torch for day diving in Sydney?

More than people expect. The good stuff here is under ledges and in gutters, and even at midday those are dark. A small torch changes what you actually see on a Gordons Bay or Bare Island dive.

Canister or handheld?

A handheld like the Scout is simple, travels well and is what most recreational divers want. A canister light like the Focus puts the battery on your waist and the head on your hand, which is brighter, lasts longer and is the standard for technical and overhead diving. Plenty of people end up with both — canister as primary, small torch as backup.
