Why Take This Course?
The GUE Technical Fundamentals course is designed for more experienced divers to enhance their skills in preparation for entering GUE's technical, rebreather, or cave programs. Higher entry requirements ensure all students are working towards a high level of competency in both personal and team diving skills.
You'll build a solid diving platform based on balance, trim, buoyancy, and propulsion techniques — covering GUE equipment configuration (double tank only), valve management, gas sharing, backup light deployment, basic rescue introduction, SMB deployment, and ascent training to prepare you for technical diving.
You'll get access to GUE's adaptive online learning platform before the in-person portion, so your time with the instructor is focused on practical skills. The course also includes the theory and use of nitrox.

ONLINE & ADAPTIVE
Complete GUE's online learning platform before you arrive, so the four in-person days go to water time rather than classroom time.

Day 1
THEORY + DIVES ONE AND TWO
Introduction and equipment configuration, land drills using double tanks and primary light, and dives focusing on trim, buoyancy and propulsion.

Day 2
NEW SKILLS
Valve management, gas sharing, backup light deployment and out-of-gas ascents, refining teamwork and procedures across the dives.

Days 3-4
MORE SKILLS + REFINEMENT
SMB deployment, basic rescue techniques and the ascent training that prepares you for technical diving — eight dives across the course.

Equipment
Cylinders and weights are included in the course cost. At this level you're expected to have your own major equipment — backplate & doubles wing, regulators, rigid single-bladed fins, primary and backup lights, and a dive computer — though equipment can be rented from Dive Centre Bondi if you are travelling light.
You're expected to own or purchase your own mask, backup mask, surface marker buoy, spool and wetnotes.
As a GUE student, you also unlock a 15% discount off most equipment items in store.
Obtain a physician's prior written authorisation for use of prescription drugs (except birth control), or for any medical condition that may pose a risk while diving.
Hold a certification from a recognised training agency to dive to 30m (100ft), or a GUE Deep Primer certification.
At least 75 non-training dives following completion of autonomous scuba diver certification, with at least 25 of these at a depth of 21m (70ft) or deeper.
At least 25 non-training dives in a double tank configuration, or 15 non-training dives utilising doubles following completion of GUE Doubles Primer certification.
If using a drysuit during the course: at least 15 non-training dives in a drysuit, or 10 non-training dives utilising a drysuit following completion of GUE Drysuit Primer certification.

What's included in the price?

How long is the course?
Normally four days, with a minimum of eight dives and at least 32 hours of in-person instruction, plus additional online and/or in-person theory.
What are the prerequisites?
Minimum age 16, a certification to dive to 30m (or GUE Deep Primer), at least 75 non-training dives (25+ at 21m or deeper), doubles configuration experience, physically and mentally fit, non-smoker, and medical clearance. See full prerequisites above.
