Why Take This Course?
GUE's Closed-Circuit Rebreather Fundamentals course is designed to help divers make a smooth transition from open-circuit to closed-circuit diving. The course provides a structured and supportive environment to develop essential skills in rebreather management, maintenance, and operational protocols.
Emphasising safety and confidence, it challenges students to master the key aspects of rebreather diving while building a solid foundation for future technical diving. The class is a prerequisite to enter more advanced GUE CCR training.

Day 1
THEORY + UNIT ASSEMBLY
Introduction, rebreather theory and concepts, unit anatomy and assembly, plus gas management and canister endurance planning.

Days 2-4
CCR SKILLS + BAILOUT SKILLS
Manual control, full bailout scenarios and other basic CCR failure management to build confidence and competence using your CCR.

Day 5
ADDITIONAL SKILLS + REFINEMENT
Final dive sessions to refine every skill and build confidence on the unit, then CCR care, maintenance and sanitation.

Equipment
The major piece of equipment required for this class is a JJ-Closed Circuit Rebreather. Dive Centre Bondi has one rental unit available, and can assist students looking to borrow or rent a unit for the class. Other equipment such as regulators, backplate & wing, rigid single-bladed fins, tanks and weights can also be rented.
You're expected to own or purchase your own mask, backup mask, surface marker buoy, spool and wetnotes. At this level, most divers are also expected to own major items such as a backplate & wing, rigid fins, regulators and a dive computer.
As a GUE student, you also unlock a 15% discount off most equipment items in store.
Obtain a physician's prior written authorisation for use of prescription drugs (except birth control), or for any medical condition that may pose a risk while diving.

What's included in the price?
Course fee is $2,000. The major equipment (a JJ-CCR unit) has one rental unit available at Dive Centre Bondi, with other equipment also available to rent — contact us to discuss.
How long is the course?
Normally five days, with a minimum of six dive sessions and at least 40 hours of instruction, including lectures, land drills, and at least 8 hours of dive time.
What are the prerequisites?
Minimum age 18, a GUE Technical Fundamentals certification, at least 150 non-training dives, and drysuit experience if you use one on the course. You must also pass GUE's swim tests. See the full prerequisites above.
Is the course internationally recognised?
Yes. GUE certifications are recognised by dive operators and technical diving communities worldwide.
