Project AWARE Partner Free Gear Rental Dive Against Debris BBQ

Dive Centre Bondi has partnered with Project AWARE to adopt Camp Cove as a dive site — our main training site, and one that suffers from the same marine debris problems as beaches everywhere. Join us above or below the water, whether you're a certified diver or just want to snorkel and help clean up.

Dive Against Debris!

  • Camp Cove is one of Sydney's most popular beaches — with divers, locals and tourists alike.
  • Sitting on the South Head, it offers beautiful harbour views and a number of stunning rocky reefs to explore.
  • Depending on conditions, we sometimes run the clean up at North Bondi instead.
  • Everyone is welcome, above or under the water — divers and snorkellers take part side by side.
  • The clean up runs for about an hour. Afterwards we sort through everything we have collected and log the data for Project AWARE.
  • To finish the day we thank every participant with a Dive Against Debris BBQ back at the dive centre.

As a special for all Dive Against Debris Clean Up Days we offer snorkelling equipment rental free of charge! For divers we also offer free tank and weight rental too! If you need any additional equipment such as a BCD, regulators or a wetsuit, we do a $50 special for full equipment rental.

Prerequisites

  • The minimum age for snorkellers to participate is 8 years old (a parent or guardian must accompany participants under 15 years old).
  • Snorkellers and divers must be able to swim.
  • Divers must be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver, or hold an equivalent certification from another recognised certification agency.
  • Divers must have been diving in the last 12 months.
  • Divers are required to sign our Waiver.

How do I book a spot?
Pick a date on the booking widget, complete the form, and you'll receive a confirmation email.
What's included?
Free gear rental for snorkellers, and free tank & weight rental for divers. Need full equipment (BCD, regulator, wetsuit)? We offer a $50 full rental special.
Do I need certification?
No certification needed to snorkel and join the clean up (minimum age 8, must be able to swim). To dive, you'll need Open Water certification (or higher) and to have dived within the last 12 months.
What if conditions aren't safe?
We monitor conditions daily. If the clean up can't go ahead safely, we'll reschedule at no cost.
What if I need to reschedule?
Rescheduling is free as long as it's more than 72 hours before your dive. Inside 72 hours there's a $50 transfer fee.
Can a friend or partner join for the day if they're not diving?
Yes! Snorkellers are very welcome — this is a dive and snorkel event, with free gear rental included.
I want to do this privately, or with just my friends — can that be done?
Yes! We run private dives and tours for individuals and groups when the scheduled dates don't line up with your availability. Get in touch and we'll arrange one for you.
Where will we dive?
This depends on the conditions on the day. We always pick the best and safest site for the swell, wind and visibility at the time, and we'll confirm where we're heading on the morning.
Where should we park?
Ocean Street North is your best bet — free parking all day, a short walk from the dive centre. From there you can either come with us to the dive site or take your own car.
Can I use my own vehicle?
Definitely. Meet us at the dive centre to get fitted for your equipment — we'll transport it to the site and back for you. If you drive yourself you can head off straight from the dive site instead of coming back to the centre for the clean-up.
Should I come earlier to try on the equipment?
No need. The start time is the time we want you at the dive centre — fitting your equipment is already built into it.
I don't have a dive buddy — is that okay?
Absolutely. We'll pair you with another diver in the group or with the instructor running the session. Coming on your own is completely normal here.
I don't have any equipment — can I still join?
Yes. We have a big range of scuba equipment available for you to use.
